I have, kind of to my own pleasant surprise, figured out a way to remove the “comments widget” in the right hand sidebar from the sight of non-members AKA people who are not logged in. Now only members can see that widget and the member names associated with it. Yet another safety measure! More anonymity… which is of course sad because we need it, but good because we have it!

By the way, it shouldn’t and indeed doesn’t make any difference for the comments themselves, of course. Members can comment on all posts, both the public ones and the restricted ones. Posting a comment on a public page/blogpost is a deliberate choice, including the fact that your name appears with the comment.

Brenda Beek, who is the artistically creative half of the quite remarkable Blabla-Omolet team, has replaced the two long dropdown Odu menus with a good looking Odu Portal. It’s not only easier to work with than the previous version… but also, just like Brenda herself looks better than me, her menu looks better than mine (wide grin)!

I just finished putting all Odus online, here to see for our members (though not for non-members). Mind: these aren’t all my Odu texts, not by far! It means that all 256 Odus are online now, each with at least one text. The presently published texts are the ones that I have, up to now, translated into English… it’s still only a fraction of what I got in some 1200 closely typed pages of which the majority needs to be translated still, However, with great regularity I will add new translations to the corpus here on Ilé Dafa. And, of course, the book Ika (all Odus that start with Ika) is already available in paper book form! Within the next two or three years all “my” Odu texts will be published as books, but in the meantime members of Ilé Dafa already have access to the growing number of already translated texts!

By the way: the nice drawing in this post is by Brenda Beek.

Odus coming online

After long, loooong thinking I’ve decided to put an online version of “my” Odu Ifa texts on this site, of course for members only. Non-members can only buy the more extensive and much nicer books (which I sure hope members will do as well – grin!)… the first volume “Ika” is already available!

Non-members can of course see the main introduction to the Odu Portal in the main navigation bar, but the links in the portal itself are only accessible to members. The texts here online are kind of a “bare bone” version of the texts in the books… the most obvious things missing are the brilliant illustrations by Brenda Beek!

If you check every now and then, you’ll see that the collection online will be growing before the series of books does… the reason being simple: I’ll be adding existing translations to the website all the time, regardless of Odu, while the books by necessity are published let’s say “Odu-wise”. A silly term, but I gues you get the gist. And while we’re at it: the second volume in the series, the book “Irete”, will be published in paper form in april 2013. It won’t be long, it is not far away!
